Welcome to Quarter 3/2017, covering the period from 26th June 2017 – 17th September 2017 (Wks 26 – 37).
Most stations have seen a drop this quarter, with a handful – most notably Heart and Magic – also showing a year on year loss.
LBC, while still having the highest share of any commercial station, was the biggest loser in terms of reach on the previous quarter – but is still 119,000 up on last year. I made the point last time that much of their success was likely to have been because of the General Election and a number of major news stories. Nationally the station continues to grow.
Capital and Magic have recently launched new breakfast shows, but it’s still too early to judge their performance.
It’s a strong showing for Virgin this quarter – having more than doubled its audience since last time. TalkRadio has also gained, but still finding it hard to gain any real traction nationally as well as in London.
The stations shown above have a quarterly survey period. A number of others are measured on a ‘rolling’ half-yearly-survey period (3rd April – 17th September 2017) which means their figures are not directly comparable. So here’s the Reach (‘000s) for all of the London stations based on a half-yearly survey:
